13 Rose Coloring Pages (Free PDF Downloads)

By Zen Vibes Editors · Published

Roses are drawn for adults as much as for kids, so this set is built in layers. It opens with two bold single-rose outlines for young children, moves through medium pages (a rose with leaves, a rosebud pair, a rose in a jar), and finishes with detailed bouquet and climbing-rose designs with layered petals meant for colored pencils and fine-tip markers.

Every rose is drawn with the petals clearly separated so you can shade each one, and thorns are kept small and rounded. Backgrounds are minimal on purpose: the flower is the picture.

How to print these pages

  1. Pick the paper size that matches what is in your printer: US Letter or A4.
  2. Open the PDF and choose Print. Set scale to 100 percent or “actual size” (not “fit to page”).
  3. Plain copy paper works for crayons and pencils. Use heavier cardstock for markers or paint.

The intricate rose patterns are best on 65 lb cardstock with fine-tip pens. Print at actual size.

Coloring roses: a simple approach that works

Start at the center of the bloom with your darkest shade and work outward, lightening each ring of petals as you go. Leave a thin white edge on the outer petals and the rose will look like it has light on it, even with crayons. Leaves take one green plus a darker stroke along the vein; stems can stay a single color.

Which pages to print for which age

The two opening outlines suit preschool and kindergarten. The medium pages are a comfortable fit for elementary students and quick adult breaks. The last four or five designs are the slow ones: plan on half an hour or more, and use paper heavy enough for the pens you like.

Ideas for using these pages

  • Petal count: count the petals on the simplest rose, then on the most detailed one, and talk about how artists simplify.
  • Gift card: color a single-rose page at 50 percent scale, fold it, and use it as a birthday or thank-you card.
